What is a tutor?
Basically, a tutor is a teacher you don't have to share. Tutors are often people who are skilled in their subject areas and who enjoy helping others learn in a one-to-one or small group setting.
How does tutoring help?
Sometimes all it takes to make a difference is a little one-on-one instruction. Tutoring is a great addition to public education -- students get individual attention in a low-stress atmosphere where they feel free to ask questions and learn from mistakes.
What kinds of tutoring can you do?
There are two types of tutoring available:
1) Homework help -- Students can bring their school assignments and have a tutor right there to go over material they might have missed, explain directions they do not understand, or check their work as they do it.
2) Skills practice -- In some subjects, especially math, there are skills that need to be mastered in order to complete the work and move on to the next topic. In a tutoring session the student can focus on the concepts behind those skills and also get extra practice with them.
